Professional Dog Training Services

Professional Dog Training Services

At Cutting Edge Canine, we understand that every dog is an individual, which is why we tailor our training approach and customise each program to suit the specific needs of both the dog and owner. Whether addressing behaviours such as aggression, anxiety, reactivity, or general obedience, we take the time to assess the whole picture, including the dog’s temperament, environment, lifestyle, and behavioural history.

Our training focuses not only on improving behaviour outcomes, but also on developing the owner’s knowledge, handling skills, and relationship with their dog. We believe lasting results come from clear communication, consistency, and building trust between dog and handler.

Services

Cutting Edge Canine delivers specialised dog training, behaviour modification and detection dog services. Servicing Blue Mountains, The Hawkesbury, Western Sydney, Lithgow and Penrith

Dog Training and Behaviour Modification

Professional dog training and behaviour modification for owners across Blue Mountains, Western Sydney, the Hawkesbury and Lithgow. Puppy preschool, Obedience, and support for aggression, anxiety and reactivity.

Whether you are raising a new puppy, or working through a specific behavioural challenge, we build training programs around your dog’s individual needs, not a one size fits all class.

Puppy Preschool

A strong foundation in the first weeks matters more than almost anything else you will do with your dog. Our puppy preschool covers socialisation, basic obedience and common problem behaviours owners need to set their puppy up for a well-adjusted adult life.

We also offer a Urban Working dog puppy class. This course is specifically designed for working breeds and high-drive dogs living in an urban environment.

Our Urban Working Dog Program teaches owners how to fulfil their dog's physical and mental needs by providing structured activities that channel drive into productive behaviours. Through obedience training, sensory-based games, engagement exercises, and impulse control activities, we show you how to give your dog a meaningful "job" that satisfies their natural instincts while enhancing everyday life.

 Adolescent Dog Development

The adolescent stage is where a lot of training gains get done, dogs get bigger, more independent, and easily distracted right as owners expect them to be “grown up”. We work through this stage specifically, reinforcing obedience under increasing distraction and building engagement habits that carry into adulthood.

Obedience Training

Practical real world obedience; reliable recall, loose-lead walking, place/settle, and everyday manners that make life with a dog easier, whether you’re aiming for basic good manners or more advanced control.

Behavioural Consultations

We work with dogs experiencing aggression, anxiety, reactivity and other behavioural challenges. Every case starts with an individual assessment of your dogs triggers, environment and history, followed by a tailored plan build around clear communication and consistency between dog and handler. This isn’t generic advice, it’s a plan built for your dog, your household and your goals.

 Areas we work with regularly:

·         Leash reactivity and dog-to-dog aggression

·         Fear and anxiety-based behaviours

·         Resource guarding

·         Separation-related distress

·         General behavioural rehabilitation for rescue and rehomed dogs

Frequently asked questions

Benefits Over Conventional Hardware Technology

Detection dogs offer several advantages over traditional acoustic or electronic leak detection methods:

· Speed and efficiency: Large areas can be screened quickly.

· Pinpoint accuracy: Dogs locate the highest concentration of odour, often identifying the exact leak source.

· Real-time results: No post-processing or interpretation delays.

· Material independence: Effective across all pipe materials (e.g., PVC, AC, cast iron).

· Early detection capability: Able to identify very small leaks before they escalate into larger, more costly failures.

The primary limitations relate to high-traffic environments, such as main roads and densely populated urban areas, where safety and operational constraints can restrict deployment. That said, dogs excel in challenging terrain, including natural reserves, coastal environments, and uneven or heavily vegetated areas where conventional methods can be less effective. While leaks have been successfully detected on private property (e.g., service lines to homes), I have not undertaken detection work inside residential dwellings

I was one of the trainers responsible for preparing and deploying the detection dogs at Sydney Water and Central Coast. In May last year, I left Sydney Water and established my own company, Cutting Edge Canine, which specialises in water and wastewater leak detection, alongside other detection dog services.

In my experience, well-trained detection dogs are highly accurate at both tracking and pinpointing potable water leaks. They are not limited by a minimum leak size or specific pipe type. Dogs I have trained and handled have successfully identified leaks ranging from very minor seepage (early-stage leaks) through to high-flow failures. They have proven effective across a wide range of assets, including water mains, main-to-meter connections, hydrants, valves, stormwater canals, and private infrastructure.

Efficient, scalable, and field-proven

Our canine teams can cover large areas in significantly less time than traditional detection methods, helping clients prioritise repairs and reduce water loss with targeted, actionable findings.
